Why & How to Volunteer
Did you know that 73% of fire departments in the United States are volunteer? In Pennsylvania alone, 90% of the fire departments are volunteer. As a volunteer organization, we save the township and taxpayers money by reducing the funds needed to run the departments.

No experience is necessary to volunteer, all training and gear is provided by the organization.
​

Requirements to Volunteer

Applicants must be over the age of 16 for junior membership and over the age of 18 for the position of firefighter.

Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance.

Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check.
Duty Crew Incentive Program (DCIP) and Paid Traning
Our Duty Crew Incentive Program (DCIP) provides four (4) firefighters Sunday-Thursday nights (7pm-5am) and alternating Friday day (7am-5pm) and night 5pm-3am) shifts through a FEMA grant (called the SAFER grant) to respond to emergency calls faster than if they were to respond from home, which benefits the community. The DCIP program is open to outside agencies!

Members are also paid a flat rate for any sanctioned training classes they receive a certificate for. These two programs incentivize members to participate, which was the intention of the grant. We also offer a live-in program for anyone interested. In addition, as of 2021, Bensalem Township also provides members with an annual tax stipend.

We recently invested in our building, making numerous improvements and changes. They include a new bunk room complete with new furniture, interior and exterior repainting, new signage, new engine room floor coating, new recreation room furniture, new gear washer and dryer (paid for using Federal grant funds), more storage space for special equipment (water rescue gear, EMS supplies) and much more!
